PHOENIX – For the Arizona Diamondbacks, getting Geraldo Perdomo back isn’t simply about adding another name to the lineup. It’s about restoring an offensive identity. After leaving Monday night’s game with knee soreness, Perdomo finds himself back in the lineup on Wednesday.

Arizona’s 3-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday was a perfect example of why. Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte opened the game with back-to-back home runs, giving the Diamondbacks an early 2-0 lead. But the offense couldn’t produce another run, and Colorado eventually rallied for the win. Those are the types of games that can haunt a team fighting for October.

Perdomo can help address that problem. The shortstop has established himself as more than a defensive presence. His ability to reach base, work counts and keep innings moving gives Arizona another player capable of changing the rhythm of a game without necessarily needing to hit a home run. That’s especially important for a team built around impact bats such as Carroll and Marte. When those stars homer, Arizona needs the rest of the lineup to capitalize. Perdomo’s return gives the Diamondbacks another catalyst who can extend innings and create opportunities for the middle of the order.

The timing couldn’t be more important. Arizona is sitting directly in the middle of a crowded NL postseason race. At this stage of the season, individual losses matter less than patterns. If the Diamondbacks repeatedly struggle to turn early offensive success into sustained production, that weakness could become magnified in September.

Perdomo’s return gives them a chance to change that pattern. For Diamondbacks fans, his comeback isn’t just another roster update. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most important addition isn’t a trade-deadline acquisition. It’s getting one of your own difference-makers back at exactly the right time.
