GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals general manager makes his first move this free agency period to improve the team’s terrible run game. In 2025, Arizona had the 31st run attack in the NFL, with injuries to James Conner and Trey Benson early in the season. Ossenfort reworked Conner’s contract to bring him back and save money, which he has turned around to sign former Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the deal is a two-year, $12.25 million deal and a massive pulse to the Cardinals run game.

Allgeier heading to Arizona:

One of Allgeier’s greatest strengths is his health. He has never missed a game due to injuries four years into his career. The 25-year-old has never had the starting role in Atlanta, only starting 12 games during his time. Allgeier’s rookie season saw him start seven games and rush for over 1,000 yards and run in three touchdowns. However, following his rookie season, the Falcons drafted RB Bijan Robinson, who clearly became the franchise’s starting choice in the backfield.

Over the next three seasons, Allgeier’s production took a hit, averaging 613.7 rushing yards per year and 4.0 yards per carry. At 5’10, Allgeier is an explosive back that was typically used for goal line situations, as in 2025 he had eight rushing touchdowns. With Conner entering his 30s, the Cardinals need to start looking towards his replacement and Allgeier has the youth and strength to fill his shoes.
