Booker’s ankle injury itself was cruel in its randomness, as it was away from the play. Onyeka Okongwujust slows down and comes to a stop while running down the court, with Devin Booker never seeing the foot he stepped on. No recklessness, no drama, just a reminder that in the NBA, seasons can change in an instant. That’s what got the reactions out of the fans, as there wasn’t any blame or rage, but the sense of vulnerability. Suns Head Coach Jordan Ott called the whole situation very “unlucky.”

Booker had just dropped 31 points and, more importantly, was getting back in the flow with all of the momentum. After a start to the season that demanded patience, this was the version of Booker that fans recognize. The Suns’ star shooting guard became the calm assassin by dictating pace and bending defensive schemes. Zoom out, and the anxiety makes even more sense. Suns fans just watched Jalen Green go down at the beginning of Friday night’s matchup, after aggravating his hamstring injury again. Fans don’t just fear losing games; they fear losing their top-tier talent. Playoff windows and timelines surrounding certain franchises are emotional investments.

This is why the wait for news feels endless, as Booker isn’t replaceable. He’s the franchise’s identity, the connective tissue between past Finals hope and present contention. Suns fans aren’t overreacting; they’re reacting accurately to risk and the possibility of Booker missing time.
