GLENDALE – The news of Jonathan Gannon’s firing has everyone talking, including Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. Since backup QB Jacoby Brissett was named starter following Week 9, Murray has been mostly radio silent. The two-time Pro Bowler rarely posted on social media and didn’t speak to the media during that span.

However, after Gannon getting fired on Monday, Murray was quick to his X account to pass along parting words to his head coach of three years.

Kyler Murray’s social media post on Gannon’s firing:

Similar to how owner Michael Bidwill and general manager Monti Ossenfort described Gannon, Murray highlighted how stellar of a man that the 42-year-old head coach was during his tenure. Despite the 16-31 record, the two had a budding relationship. The two-time Pro Bowler eyed his second playoff appearance entering 2025, while Gannon was locked in on matching expectations in Year 3.

Neither came to fruition and the pair are both likely to part ways from the franchise. Gannon was just the beginning of the domino effect of this offseason. Ossenfort stated in Monday’s press conference that it is too early to analyze the quarterback position, which doesn’t help rebuild the relationship with the 28-year-old who lost his job due to injury.

Murray’s legacy with the Cardinals will be complicated one, a former number one overall pick with uber talent that never was able to put together winning records. Nothing is final, but all signs are pointing to Murray’s seven year stint in Arizona being over.
