GLENDALE – After months of speculation, the Arizona Cardinals have fired head coach Jonathan Gannon after three seasons with the franchise, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 42-year-old head coach had a 15-31 record in his tenure, which is one of the worst winning percentages in the team’s history. Gannon stated last week he was confident he would be back on the roster. The roster’s injuries and owner Michael Bidwill not wanting to pay for another head coach to seemed to be in Gannon’s favor. However, Bidwill made the decision Monday morning, and will have general manager Monti Ossenfort search for the next head coach.

Gannon fired after three seasons in Arizona:

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) talks with head coach Jonathan Gannon during training camp at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Aug. 6, 2025.
Arizona entered the 2025 season with plenty of hype to made its first postseason push since 2025. As the weeks progress, those aspirations plummeted. The team had the most games missed by starters in the NFL this and the most players to play in a game this season with 80+. The revolving door of players and losing key starters like James Conner and Kyler Murray could’ve been an easy escape goat for Gannon to keep his job.
Bidwill decided he has enough of Gannon after hiring the head coach in the 2023 offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles. In his opening press conference, Gannon preached intensity and explosiveness from his football team. In 2025, those adjectives didn’t fit the bill of this team leading to him being fired. This year saw the Cardinals suffer the most losses in franchise history and the most points surrendered in a single season ever.

Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort speaks about Walter Nolen with head coach Jonathan Gannon during a news conference inside the Arizona Cardinals training facility on April 24, 2025, in Tempe.
Ossenfort will not be tasked to find the team’s next head coach. The third-year general manager came in at the same time as Gannon, but Bidwill chose to keep him despite the lack of team success. Ossenfort and Bidwill with meet with the media on Monday at noon to discuss the decision to move on from Gannon.
