The Territorial Cup is one of the oldest in college football. Fans of both programs always show up ready to prove they’re better than the other. Pride and legacy are always at stake and no programs know each other better than these two.

This will be the first time since 2014 that both teams enter the game with at least seven wins, a rarity that raises the stakes well beyond state pride.

As with every game this season, this one carries playoff implications. While both teams are already bowl eligible, the Wildcats will look to spoil the Sun Devils’ bid to defend their Big 12 championship.

Both ASU and Arizona have taken different paths despite their similar records. Arizona State has dealt with injuries and worked to find consistency after a breakout 2024 season that led to its first Big 12 title. Arizona, meanwhile, is defying expectations and has quietly emerged as one of the toughest teams to face.

One thing to watch is the teams’ Big 12 records. The Sun Devils currently have a 5-2 record, while the Wildcats sit at 4-3. Other results around the conference would also need to fall in ASU’s favor for the Sun Devils to secure a spot in the conference championship game.

Arizona State will go on the road to face Colorado in its final regular-season away game before facing Arizona. Despite Colorado’s 3–7 record, the Sun Devils can’t afford to let their guard down and must continue playing their gritty brand of football before the Territorial Cup.

One of the most entertaining matchups in college football is quickly approaching, and with what it means to both programs, it won’t be one to miss.

Arizona State and Arizona will face off on Friday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m.
