It was strong fundamental basketball from the Phoenix Suns against the Mavericks. The ability to win the turnover battle and play around their star Devin Booker with consistent shooting will be one of the main reasons why this offense succeeds. They are showing that they have the depth that is capable of taking on teams that don’t stack up and compete against the top-tier talent around the league.

Phoenix wanted to address their depth heading into the 2025-2026 NBA season, and their role players stepped up big. Grayson Allen continued his hot streak as put up 23 points. Dillon Brooks and Royce O’Neale are buying into the overall game plan as well, and bringing true veteran grit. Having their superstar Devin Booker be able to get some scoring help from their role players will be a massive help going forward. Brooks ended the night with 18 points while O’Neale had 13 points of his own.

The bench for the Suns played a big role as their help was on display in their victory on Wednesday night as well. Ryan Dunn and Jordan Goodwin brought the consistency and energy needed to truly bring a spark into the game. The Suns have been longing for some good depth pieces the last couple of seasons, and it seems Head Coach Jordan Ott will have some good options this season. Even in a close matchup down the stretch where the Mavericks fought to the very end, the Suns had the pieces to close it out when it mattered on Wednesday night.
