According to MariaSportsMas, and later confirmed by Jack Sommers, Perdomo will play for the Águilas Cibaeñas this winter, a team in the Dominican Winter League. His debut will be an opportunity to stay sharp in a slower-paced league while continuing to inspire the next generation of Dominican talent.

“I feel at home,” he said on the team’s broadcast on Wednesday night. “… I asked for permission, [the D-Backs] know. I came here to play.” (translated from Spanish to English)

It’s not rare for major league players to play internationally in the offseason, as teammate Jordan Lawlar played with the Tigres del Licey last year and will rejoin the team again this year. With four seasons of MLB experience, the 25-year-old hopes to build on his performance and become a mainstay for the D-Backs.

Perdomo’s season debut with the Águilas Cibaeñas is also a return to his roots and something personal for the shortstop. He played for the team in previous seasons and has been vocal about giving back to the community.

“I love playing because the family and fans deserve it,” he said. “… There’s nothing better than winter baseball.” (translated from Spanish to English)

As the Diamondbacks shortstop prepares to suit up for the winter league, his goal isn’t just to improve for the next season. It’s also to give back to the people that helped him reach his major league dreams.
