PHOENIX — Ketel Marte is the face of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Or at least, he was supposed to be.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! So why are fans once again hearing his name floated in trade rumors?
According to Mark McClune of Arizona’s Family and “The Extra Point” podcast, general manager Mike Hazen has not ruled out dealing Marte before the July 31 trade deadline. It’s a report that has shaken fans and sparked broader questions about Arizona’s direction, and whether this team has a clear identity at all.

Pitching has been Arizona’s focus, with injuries plaguing the team this season. The D-Backs have already traded first baseman Josh Naylor to the Mariners for two pitching prospects in return. While third baseman Eugenio Suárez is drawing interest from teams seeking power, Marte’s value could bring an even bigger return through pitching.

The Diamondbacks are now faced with questions about the type of team they hope to be, especially if they do trade a long-tenured veteran who has been well-respected both on and off the field.
Marte has been involved with the Arizona community since he first arrived, participating in charities and youth events. He is one of the Diamondbacks’ most loved players, creating a connection with the fan base over the past eight years.

What precedent is set if Marte is traded? Could other star players, like Corbin Carroll and Gerlado Perdomo, also be involved in trades despite receiving extensions as well? What core does Arizona plan to have in the next years to build around if no one is untouchable?
Some fans online have already slammed the rumor, with some questioning the team’s loyalty to their players.
i cannot believe he would even mildly entertain anything like this. https://t.co/nZBXUFXH2Y

Even if, and this is a big if, this was even an ounce of a good idea, the man likely wants to retire a Diamondback. I don’t see the point in this.

Crazy to even fathom moving Ketel. Fans would probably boycott going to games. The core of Carroll, Perdomo, Moreno, and Marte should not be moved.

This front office is terrible. There is no sure thing with these top ranked prospects and I don’t trust this front office to make that type of trade. Would be the worst move in franchise history

As trade talks continue over the next few days, the Diamondbacks’ next decisions could speak volumes about the franchise’s direction and the commitment to their core.
