Arizona broke the game open early in tonight’s humid and muggy summer matchup, as the Snakes were aiming to pick up some steam on the south side of Chicago. Geraldo Perdomo had a leadoff single, followed by Ketel Marte hitting a single of his own. After a past ball allowed runners to advance, Josh Naylor hit a line drive down the first base line to score Perdomo and Marte to give Arizona a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Another scary injury moment occurred when Eugenio Suárez was hit on his hand, similar to the recent Corbin Carroll injury. He was removed in the second inning, and Ildemaro Vargas took over duties at third base.

Pavin Smith helped break this game out open by smashing a monster three-run home run to right field to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a 5-0 lead in the second inning.

Eduardo Rodriguez was in no mood to mess around on Monday night as he pitched six scoreless innings while only allowing five hits. It was a different story for Shane Smith as Arizona was able to drive his pitch count up early. Smith only was able to pitch 2.0 innings while giving up five earned runs on four hits in 64 pitches.

Arizona was able to attack Chicago’s bullpen as the game went into the later innings. Ketel Marte continued his all-star campaign with a solo shot home run in the fourth inning. Suddenly right after the Snakes ended up going back-to-back when Pavin Smith hit a solo home run right after Marte, for his second homer of this game.
