Ketel Marte was doing Ketel Marte things on Tuesday. In the first at-bat of the game, he sent one 445 feet. Marte’s very next at-bat, he smacked another one that gave the D-Backs a 4-0 lead. When Marte is lighting it up at the plate, it is a thing of beauty. His pure talent shines through as not only the best second baseman in all of baseball but one of the best hitters in the league.

Back on track:

Zac Gallen had another decent start to begin Tuesday’s matchup. Gallen didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning. Eugenio Suarez had another couple of defensive miscues at third which has hurt this team at times. Atlanta was able to get three runs in and bring the score to 4-3.

Gallen settled back in after the fourth-inning fiasco. Gallen’s day would have been a lot smoother and his stats on Tuesday would have looked better, but overall it was an outing he could build off of. Arizona can be optimistic with this performance that he could be getting back into his groove. Gallen pitched seven innings and only gave up one earned run and three runs total on four hits. Gallen had 11 ground ball outs, Atlanta truly had no answer for him on Tuesday.

Corbin Carroll showed his power wasn’t just going to be coming at the beginning of the season as he hit his 17th home run of the season, a booming 438 feet to get one of those runs back.

Shelby Miller entered in the eighth inning and after allowing Atlanta to get two baserunners on, Alek Thomas made an incredible catch in centerfield a potential game saving play. In the top of the ninth inning, Corbin Carroll did his best Ketel Marte impression an hit his second home run of the game as well, giving the D-Backs an 8-3 lead.

Ryan Thompson closed this game out, giving the D-Backs the 8-3 victory over Atlanta. The Snakes will look to win the series over the Braves tomorrow with first pitch at 4:15 p.m. PT.
