PHOENIX – Abysmal pitching has been one of the biggest storylines for this Arizona Diamondbacks ball club so far in the 2025 season.

Brandon Pfaadt was the latest victim of an uncharacteristic outing that seems to be plaguing this D-Backs team. In last night’s start, Pfaadt was pulled after allowing eight earned runs on six hits without even recording an out. The Nationals put up 10 runs in the first inning on Arizona at Chase Field last night.

History was made.. but not in the way the Arizona Diamondbacks would have liked. In an unfortunate series of events in the first inning, Pfaadt’s outing tied a National League record for a first-inning collapse and was only one run behind the Red Sox record of 10 runs allowed back in 2003. The Nationals’ 9 runs before recording an out are 2nd-most before a team’s first out of game in the expansion era (1961), behind the Red Sox 10 on 6/27/03, which is the MLB record
9 ties the NL record, previously done by the Phillies on 8/13/1948

“In a bad stretch for the Diamondbacks, this is the worst it’s been.”
The Nationals scored 7 runs off Brandon Pfaadt in the first.

First @Dbacks game of the season I attend and they’re already down 8-0… in the top of the 1st.
Two pitchers.
Zero outs.
I paid money for this ????

Fans cheering on their feet as they finally record an out, I feel sorry for all of them having to pay to watch this team right now

Arizona needs to figure out what they need to do to get back on track, they have lost the last four series in a row and are trying to avoid a sweep on Sunday at Chase Field against the Nationals.
