PHOENIX – As the Arizona Diamondbacks head back home to Chase Field to get ready for a meeting with the Colorado Rockies, some are using this time as a measuring stick so far for this Arizona ball club.

It is still way too early in the season to know where this is all headed, though there are lingering issues, glaring needs, and highlight performances that show where this team could be going. Arizona just got finished playing 16 games in 16 days and split those outings while going up against the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.

Figuring out pitching:

Starting pitching has been up and down this season to say the least. The newest member of the D-Backs, Corbin Burnes, has just started looking like his old self, as Arizona would like to see his Cy Young talents come out a little more. Zac Gallen is in his contract year and has had a roller coaster of a season so far. Gallen has pitched very well in his three outings against the New York teams, but other than that has yet to find his rhythm. Brandon Pfaadt has been the highlight of this Arizona rotation, as he has been the most stable and reliable so far in the 2025 season.

Bullpen issues have to be the biggest problem with this team, as they deal with injuries and poor execution. Once A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez get back off of the IL, that will sure be a welcome sight. The answer for this Diamondbacks team might not be on their roster as of now though.

If the Arizona Diamondbacks can keep the consistency up at the plate with guys like Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte leading the way, they show that they can contend with the best of the best and make their mark in this league.
