The Snakes struggled to get runs across the plate all night until the late innings of the game, as their main problem was leaving runners on base. Going into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Diamondbacks trailed 4-0 to Milwaukee, and it seemed like with the way their bullpen was pitching, the game was as good as over. Suddenly, the snakes came alive and the “answerbacks”, showed why they earned that nickname as they had a five-run rally and took the win back in the bottom of the ninth.

It all started when the Brewers called in the struggling Joel Payamps who originally got Eugenio Suárez to ground out, but then walked Gabriel Moreno and gave up a triple to Alek Thomas. Brewers head coach Pat Murphy saw enough after that and turned to Trevor Megill to close the game out. Garrett Hampson then came up to the plate and drew a clutch walk, having red-hot Corbin Carroll come up and deliver a clutch double to score both baserunners. Perdomo then came up and drew a walk leaving it all up to Jake McCarthy.

McCarthy, who started the 2025 MLB season going 0-24, delivered the game-tying single for the D-Backs, as Chase Field erupted. Shortly after, the Brewers walked Josh Naylor to get to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. who then hit the game-winning sacrifice fly to right field scoring Geraldo Perdomo.
The Arizona Diamondbacks get their first walk-off win of the 2025 MLB season and will look to capitalize on their momentum going into Sunday’s game against the Brewers, as they now have an opportunity to win the series!
