The extension includes a $21 million club option in 2031 and a $25 million mutual option in 2031. “It was pretty recent,” Pfaadt said on the timing of the deal. “In the last week or so [Dbacks] brought it to our attention, and we were able to get a deal done.

The deal eliminates Pfaadt’s remaining arbitration years and the first two-years of him in free agency if the options in the final two years are accepted.

As a his first year as a starter, Pfaadt went 11-10 with a 4.71 ERA, posting 185 strikeouts and a 1.24 WHIP. The 26-year-old’s rise to stardom came during the 2023 postseason run by Arizona, where it made the world series for the first time since 2001. During that National League pennant run, Pfaadt had a 3.27 ERA in five starts and solidified himself as a permanent starter.

Pfaadt dealt with injuries last year, and have had a bumpy Spring campaign. However, the deal with the Dbacks shows the confidence they have in the right-hander to bounce back and return to the heights of his postseason outings.

The Arizona’s rotation has become more cluttered with many experience arms with Cy Young winners and All-Stars, but Pfaadt’s placement allows him an opportunity to flourish in the Valley and rise to a similar stature as his rotation mates.
