Montgomery ended up starting off his 2025 season by exercising his $22.5 million player option, but as expected, to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. We finally get the answer to the question, where will Jordan Montgomery fit in with this D-Backs team, and unfortunately it wont look he like will get a chance to. Last season Montgomery had an 8-7 record, dealing a 6.23 ERA in over 25 games.

Jordan Montgomery came over after the 2023 season, after winning the World Series with the Texas Rangers. Owner Ken Kendrick has been vocal about the regrets he has about giving the pitcher a massive contract.

This spring training showed a small glimpse of what he could bring to the table as a bullpen hand or middle reliever. Montgomery was active in just three innings and allowed five earned runs in that time. This injury now opens the door for young pitcher Ryne Nelson to have a bigger role in this system.

Hopefully the Arizona Diamondbacks can avoid the injury bug headed into the 2025 season, as they are going to need all the help they can in their journey of a playoff run.
