ASU’s next step after 111-106 loss to No. 12 Texas Tech

PHOENIX – Arizona State men’s basketball needed a win last night. Losers of seven of its past nine games, an upset win over No. 12 Texas Tech is enough to jump ASU back to life. Head coach Bobby Hurley and his squad gave it their best effort, taking the Red Raiders to double OT. However, a tale as old as time, the Sun Devils struggle in the clutch with late-game turnovers that cost them the win.

What’s next for ASU? It’s 15th in the Big 12 with a 3-10 conference record and hasn’t won a game in February yet. The road doesn’t let up in the final seven games either, with three ranked opponents and a red-hot Kansas State team.

Hurley could be on the hot seat, depending on this season’s finish. ASU showed life for the first time in weeks against one of the premier teams in the nation, Texas Tech. The Sun Devils had their best offensive games because of returning senior guards BJ Freeman and Adam Miller.

Miller and Freeman are just two of the long list of experienced juniors and seniors on this roster who have endured the turbulence. The term “moral victory” is polarizing because a loss is a loss. However, ASU can build its confidence and propel it to play as it did through the first 13 games of the season.

The Sun Devils have their next two games at home against TCU and No. 6 Houston. They can bring the momentum of last night’s game to Tempe and get their first win since January 28th.
