While other players from ASU recently announced on social media that they were returning for next season, star wide receiver Jordyn Tyson waited until the final day that he could have requested to transfer to pledge his commitment to the Sun Devils.

This is a huge boost for ASU as the program will be retaining its No. 1 receiver amongst many of its starters. As superstar running back Cam Skattebo and defensive back Shamari Simmons are both set to depart as seniors, the likes of Tyson, quarterback Sam Leavitt, safety Xavion Alford, cornerback Keith Abney and others are all returning for at least another year.
Transferring from Colorado, Tyson was a revelation for Arizona State in his first season with the team.
Even though Skattebo’s dominance was the biggest story of the year, another key factor to ASU’s success was the strong chemistry Tyson and Leavitt built together in such a short amount of time. The redshirt sophomore Tyson had 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Suffering a massive blow that put an abrupt end to his season, Tyson was tackled hard to the ground in the Territorial Cup against arch-rival Arizona and struggled to get back up. He would be seen with an arm sling but would be ruled out for the rest of the year with an undisclosed injury, missing the Big 12 title game and the Peach Bowl.
Recognized for his performance on the field, he was named to the All-Big 12 first-team and the AP-All-American third-team.
Since Xavier Guillory and Melquan Stovall have played the last games of their collegiate careers, Tyson’s workload may change depending on who else starts beside him at receiver. Malik McClain, Zechariah Sample and Derek Eusebio are all coming back, Noble Johnson and Jalen Moss have transferred in and many high school recruits will be joining soon.
Whatever the case may be, Tyson will look to build off of his debut season at ASU as the team will look to repeat as Big 12 champions and return to the College Football Playoff.
