NBA commissioner Adam Silver continues to introduce new ideas to reengage a dwindling fan base. He latest attempt was announced on Tuesday morning with changes coming to the NBA All-Star game. The showcase will now be played as a 4-team tournament, with three of the teams being comprised of 8 All-Stars, and the last team being made up of players from the Futures game.
The NBA All-Star game has been heavily criticized over the last few years as the product has become less and less competitive. Players shoot more uncontested shots now more than ever and the score has grown to nearly eclipse 400 points. The hope is this new format will introduce some competitive energy back into the game. The Suns will likely send two or three players to this years All-Star game between Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker.
