Both ASU star running back Cam Skattebo (undisclosed) and linebacker Keyshaun Elliott (stinger) were deemed questionable for the Sun Devils’ crucial road game on Saturday against No. 20 Kansas State, according to head coach Kenny Dillingham.

After reaching 1,001 rushing yards on the season against Oklahoma State two games ago, Skattebo suffered an injury during the fourth quarter that also caused him to miss Arizona State’s 35-31 victory over UCF. The 5-foot-11 senior was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week last Monday for his dominant 274-yard performance vs. OSU where he scored three touchdowns.

Listed as “questionable to doubtful” for the matchup against UCF last week, Skattebo’s status against Kansas State will be determined sometime this week.

“Skat is questionable for the game. I think he is going to try to practice, at least jog through some things and run around a little bit tomorrow,” Dillingham said at a press conference on Monday. “He was trying to get me to put him in the game [against UCF] in like the middle of the third quarter and I was like, ‘No, you are not going to get suited up.’ We’ll see what he looks like this week when, even though he is cleared, I want to make sure that we’re going to get the best version of Cam if he goes out there and he feels good about himself.”

For Elliott, he also was inactive in the victory over the Knights after he sustained a stinger to his neck vs. Oklahoma State. A New Mexico State transfer, Elliott has tallied 45 tackles, three passes defended, one sack, and an interception across eight games this season.

Like Skattebo, Dillingham is being cautious with Elliott and will evaluate where he is at in the coming days.

“Keyshaun’s questionable like Skat, he’ll try to run around earlier in the week and see how it progresses,” Dillingham said. “I do feel better about both those two [Skattebo and Elliott] than I did last week, but they are still questionable. They have to go do it, feel comfortable, feel good about otherwise putting them out there isn’t doing them justice. It’s my job to protect them from them.”

Coming back from an undisclosed injury but in a limited role against UCF, offensive lineman Kyle Scott only played three offensive snaps after starting the previous three games. Dillingham said Scott will be “good this week.”

ASU (7-2, 4-2 Big 12) will head to Manhattan and take on Kansas State (7-2, 4-2) on Saturday at 5 p.m. MST.
