The New York Giants, grappling with a depleted offensive line, reportedly hosted a workout for long-time Arizona Cardinals left tackle D.J. Humphries on Tuesday. This move comes as the Giants look to reinforce their protection after a rough outing in which they surrendered eight sacks in a 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Humphries, a former first-round pick and eight-year veteran with the Cardinals, became a free agent after being released by Arizona in March. His release followed a season-ending ACL tear in Week 17 last year, which landed him on injured reserve. Despite the injury, Humphries’ resume remains impressive—he started 98 games during his time in Arizona, primarily at left tackle, and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2021
The Giants’ offensive line has struggled mightily this season, particularly following the loss of star left tackle Andrew Thomas, who suffered a season-ending injury a few weeks ago. Thomas, the fourth overall pick in the 2020 draft, was a cornerstone for the Giants’ protection unit, and his absence has left a significant void.
Interestingly, this wouldn’t be the first time the Giants turned to a former Cardinals lineman to fill in for Thomas. Last season, following Thomas’ injury in Week 1, New York signed veteran lineman Justin Pugh, who had spent five seasons with the Cardinals. Now, they’re eyeing Humphries to provide similar reinforcement.
