Ketel Marte, Eugenio Suárez shine in MLB’s final Team of the Month for September

Arizona Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte (4) hits a single against the San Diego Padres at Chase Field on Sept. 29, 2024.

While the Diamondbacks may not have had the September they hoped for, finishing the month with a .500 record at 13-13, two of their standout stars earned spots on MLB’s final Team of the Month.

As expected, these honors came from Arizona’s explosive offense, which finished the season leading the league in runs scored.

First, All-Star Ketel Marte was named the second baseman of the month. After returning from a stint on the injured list, Marte finished his 2024 campaign in strong form, hitting six home runs to bring his season total to 36. During a key series against the Brewers, Marte homered in three consecutive games. He is expected to finish third or fourth in the National League MVP race.

Eugenio Suárez was recognized as the third baseman of the month. Suárez capped off the season by hitting his 30th home run in the Diamondbacks’ finale, marking the third time in four years he’s reached that milestone. He also notched his 100th RBI in the season’s final game. In September alone, Suárez had 11 multi-hit games, raising his batting average from .238 to .256. Earlier in the summer, he had been hitting just .192 with an OPS of .584, but he boosted his OPS to .788 by the end of the season.

The only other National League West player to make the Team of the Month was the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani.
