The D-backs (88-72) hoped this first pitch would spark a victory, but now they sit just outside of the Wild Card race by way of tiebreaker to the New York Mets (87-71) and Atlanta Braves (87-71) with two games remaining. The Padres (92-68) clinched the first Wild Card spot with the win.
Dunn, who was drafted No. 28 overall this summer out of Virginia, begins his first training camp with the Suns next week after Monday’s media day.
In his sophomore 2023-24 season, the 6-foot-6, 21-year-old Dunn led the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with 2.3 blocks per game and also averaged 1.3 steals to go along with 8.1 points on 54.8%/20%/53.2% shooting splits, 6.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists, starting all 34 games for the Cavaliers and receiving ACC All-Defensive Team honors.
Now, he will bring his defensive prowess to the NBA and look to carve out a role on a veteran-led Suns team.
