The Diamondbacks defeated the Dodgers 14-3 at Chase Field on Sunday, but lost left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the sixth inning. After the game, manager Torey Lovullo told PHNX Sports’ Jesse Friedman that Gurriel has tightness in left calf and will undergo an MRI.

Gurriel bounced into a double play to end the inning and came up hopping after hitting the bag. He was removed from the game and replaced by Jorge Barrosa and is considered day-to-day. Barrosa was called up earlier in the day as the extra position player, with the active roster expanding to 28 players for September.
The Diamondbacks are closing in on a playoff spot but cannot afford to suffer any more injuries down the stretch. They’re already out Christian Walker, Ketel Marte, and Gabriel Moreno, so losing Gurriel on top of that takes the punch out of their lineup against left-handed pitchers. Marte and Walker are expected back for the Giants series on Tuesday.
If the MRI reveals a potential calf strain, then Gurriel will likely be headed for the injured list.
