The NFL announced Friday that Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Zay Jones has been suspended for the first five games of the 2024 season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Last November, Jones was arrested and charged with domestic battery.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on X, “The Florida state attorney’s office dropped a misdemeanor domestic battery charge against Zay Jones in March, when he was on the #Jaguars. But the NFL ran its own investigation, which is standard, and returned a five-game suspension.”

The Cardinals have a pretty set top three wide receivers in Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch, but Jones was right behind them after a strong training camp. In the team’s first official depth chart, Jones was listed as the backup slot receiver behind Dortch.
These are the five games Jones will miss:
- Week 1: at Buffalo Bills (Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. MST, CBS)
- Week 2: vs. Los Angeles Rams (Sept. 15 at 1:05 p.m. MST, FOX)
- Week 3: vs. Detroit Lions (Sept. 22 at 1:05 p.m. MST, FOX)
- Week 4: vs. Washington Commanders (Sept. 29 at 1:05 p.m. MST, FOX)
- Week 5: at San Francisco 49ers (Oct. 6 at 1:05 p.m. MST, FOX)
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Jones spent four collegiate seasons (2013-16) at East Carolina before being drafted 37th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. The Texas native played two full seasons (2017-18) with the Bills until he was traded to the Raiders in 2019 for a 2021 fifth-round pick. In 2022, Jones signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played until he signed with Arizona.
So far in the NFL, Jones has played 104 games (67 starts), collecting 287 receptions for 3,028 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns. Last year, he suited up for nine games (seven starts) and accumulated 34 catches for 321 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars.
