Durant also had a funny reaction to the record when asked about getting the game ball in a video posted by USA basketball.
“A little record, scored a lot of points. Just cause I’ve been here a long time,” Durant said of getting the game ball.
When you become your country’s all-time leading scorer in the Olympics, of course you keep the game ball.

As Durant said in his post, he is chasing his fourth gold medal this summer (won in 2012, 2016 and 2021), which would give him the USA men’s basketball all-time record for gold medals.
Leslie posted on X: “Congratulations @KDTrey5 I’m honored to have you break my @TeamUSA Olympic record!!! Our dedication to our country is evident and etched in stone!! Now go get another Gold medal my friend! One Team, One Goal, Gold! #GoUSA”

Although Durant, who is also the eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, may be downplaying the achievement, those around him are not.
“That’s Captain America status,” Suns teammate Devin Booker said of Durant’s record postgame on NBC. “I feel like he has every record, every Olympic record. Now we have to get him his fourth gold, that’ll be the most as a men’s player also. He’s a hard-worker. Now that we’re teammates, I get to see it behind the scenes and all he cares about is hoops. He loves it, 24/7 that’s all he does.”
Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young called Durant “THE Olympic (GOAT).”

Team USA teammates Stephen Curry, Bam Adebayo and LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, also congratulated Durant on social media.
