Announced on X, Martinez has signed with Sun Devil baseball ahead of his senior season after his lone year for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Showcasing his high level of talent from an early age, Martinez was a star at Ray (Tex.) High School where he had a 7-2 record and a 2.35 ERA. He impressed so much that he committed to well-reknowned NCAA Div. III program Trinity University in Texas.

For the Tigers, the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder tossed 101.0 innings in 38 appearances, totaling 127 strikeouts, allowed 87 hits and owned a 10-1 record across two seasons (2022-23).

After his sophomore year, Martinez ended up entering the transfer portal before eventually landing in Louisiana. While a junior, he appeared in 22 games, posting a 4.40 ERA, two saves, 50 strikeouts and went 4-3 in 45 innings. He kept the opposing batters to a .199 batting average, being a dependable arm whenever he pitched for Louisiana who were 42-20 as a team this past season.

Having a successful campaign with Louisiana in the Sun Belt Conference, he will arriving in Tempe this fall and will look to help Sun Devils head coach Willie Bloomquist’s pitching staff. Arizona State relievers Hunter Omlid and Ryan Schiefer who were both selected in the 2024 MLB Draft and Burns left, seeing this opportunity for Martinez.
