Brandon Pfaadt left the Diamondbacks’ 7-5 win over the Padres in the fifth inning after getting struck in the left ankle by a line drive. The Diamondbacks later announced the right-hander had a left ankle contusion. After the game, manager Torey Lovullo said on Dbacks TV that the x-rays were all negative and everything is OK with Pfaadt’s injured ankle.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!“I made the decision to remove him from the game, and he wasn’t going to talk me out of that,” said Lovullo. “It’s one of those things where he’s too valuable. It’s all about the human being first, and not knowing what was really going to be happening in that moment and that situation. I just said you got to come off the field and get evaluated. He wanted to stay out there, but it did not make any sense for me.”
Lovullo brought in Kevin Ginkel, who retired all five hitters faced with four strikeouts to get the game to the seventh inning.
Jesse Friedman of PHNX Sports reports that the Diamondbacks will see how Pfaadt’s ankle responds the next day before deciding if he can make his next start. His rotation spot comes up again on July 11 against the Braves.
Torey Lovullo said he expects Brandon Pfaadt to make his next start, although they want to see how he feels in the morning.

The rotation is already dealing with injuries. They just got Zac Gallen back last week after missing a month with a right hamstring strain. Merrill Kelly has not started a game since April 15 and Eduardo RodrÃguez has yet to throw a pitch this season. Jordan Montgomery was just placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation, although he could be back after the All-Star break. Pitching prospects Cristian Mena and Yilber Diaz have been called upon to start games this month.
