In a since-deleted post on X, Thomas detailed a scary incident in his hometown of Tacoma, Washington involving a kid and an AK-47 assault rifle.

“Really trippin on how these young kids are moving around!!! I really had a life changing moment yesterday where a kid pulled a AK47 out on me and the homies and if it wasn’t for who I was and him recognizing me in my own city he probably woulda ended all of our lives. Be SAFE,” Thomas wrote.

Thomas added in a separate post in relation to the incident: “We just gotta pray for these young men!!! God was working yesterday frfr. Damn it coulda all been over that quick smh. FOR NO REASON AT ALL!!!!!”

The two-time All-Star Thomas signed a rest-of-season contract with the Suns on April 9 after originally signing a two-way deal with the team on March 20.  He is currently a free agent this summer after only getting garbage-time minutes for Phoenix.

The 35-year-old said the following when asked earlier this month if he would be back in the Valley next season:

“We’ll see what changes they make,” Thomas said. “Hopefully I’m around to be able to make things easier for those guys. I’m gonna definitely have my two cents and try to be around because it’s definitely a good group of guys and a great organization to be in for sure.”
