Update on Paul Sewald’s Recovery Journey

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Paul Sewald is all smiles before the team takes on the Philadelphia Phillies for Game 6 of their NLCS at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Oct. 23, 2023.

Beginning the season on the injured list with a grade 2 left oblique strain, Paul Sewald took a big step in his recovery process by engaging in a symptom-free throwing session on Tuesday.

Conducting the session from a distance of 60 feet, Sewald reportedly experienced no discernible pain, a development his manager, Torey Lovullo, regards as “a good sign in Sewald’s progression”.

Currently, there is no definitive timetable for Sewald’s return to the lineup.

After joining the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline last season, Sewald stepped up as a massive piece in Arizona’s bullpen, often referred to as the “glue” that held them together.

During the run-up to the World Series last postseason, Sewald delivered eight consecutive scoreless appearances in the 9th inning, striking out 10 batters and conceding only three hits.

In Sewald’s absence, Kevin Ginkel has assumed the role of closer.

Stay tuned for further updates.
