He primarily served as a third baseman but occasionally filled the role of designated hitter. During the postseason, Rivera managed a batting record of 4 hits in 17 at-bats.
The acquisition of Eugenio Suarez by the Diamondbacks during the offseason rendered Rivera’s position in the infield redundant.
The Marlins currently have Jonah Bride and Jake Burger alternating at third base, so Rivera will have compete for playing time.
