On X (formerly Twitter), the D’Backs announced the starting lineup for tonight which indicated that Jorge Barrosa will make his first MLB start of his career. Barrosa is slated to be the centerfielder while star Corbin Carroll is not in the lineup to begin the game.

The 23-year-old recieved his first-ever callup to the MLB before Monday night’s game.

In the bottom of the ninth inning vs. the Yankees, Barrosa made his first MLB plate appearance as a pinch hitter and doubled.

With his first career hit, the Venezuela native became the second youngest Dimaondbacks player to record an extra-base hit in their first Major League at-bat. Back in 2009, former D’Back Gerardo Parra homered in his first career at-bat at 22 years of age.

In July of 2017, Barrosa signed with the Diamondbacks as an international free agent and has been in the minors until Monday.

Before his recall, the D’Backs rookie played two games this season with Arizona’s Triple-A minor league affiliate, the Reno Aces. There, he went 2-for-8 with a .250 average and scored a run.

Listed at the No. 7 hitter, Barrosa will slot in tonight between catcher Gabriel Moreno and right fielder Jake McCarthy.

First pitch between the D’Backs and Yankees commences inside Chase Field at 6:40 p.m. PT.
