Concluding in their second tie this spring, the Diamondbacks missed the opportunity to secure their third consecutive win due to three runs scored by the A’s in the 8th inning.

Merrill Kelly took the mound for Arizona, delivering an impressive performance by striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings. Kelly navigated through some challenging situations, including a bases-loaded predicament in the 3rd inning, which ended with Esuery Ruiz striking out.

Offensively, the Diamondbacks took an early lead with Kevin Newman driving in a run with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. They continued to build on this momentum with additional runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.

Key contributors during these rallies were Jake McCarthy and Christian Walker, both finishing with a stat line of 2-for-3, including 1 RBI and 1 run scored each.

However, the Diamondbacks’ offense stalled after the 4th inning, managing only one more hit in the last five innings of play.

This lull in offense allowed the A’s to close the gap, which they did in the 8th inning. Facing Logan Allen, the A’s managed to tie the game with a series of three singles and two doubles.

On the bright side, Allen managed to prevent the A’s from taking the lead by securing the final two outs with runners stranded on 1st and 2nd base.

Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks are set to face the Chicago Cubs in a night game on Tuesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:10 PM.
