Basketball fans got to witness a hard-fought battle between the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night, sparking a debate about who is better: Kevin Durant or Nikola Jokić?

The Suns were leading 65-50 at halftime before the Nuggets forced overtime. But to come out of Denver, Durant and Phoenix pulled away by snatching a 117-107 win.

As a result of this, outlets like ESPN among others were drawing up comparisons and raising the question of who will have the better resume once their careers are all said and done.

“If the Nuggets win back-t0-back championships, will Jokic surpass KD [Kevin Durant] on the list of all-time greats,” ESPN said via X (formerly Twitter).

As indicated by the post, Durant has been an All-NBA selection 10 times, was the 2013-14 MVP and won two NBA Titles. In 17 seasons, KD has played 1,041 games, averaging 27.3 points, 7.0 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Durant is 35 years old and has more experience than Jokić who is currently 29, so Jokić still has more time to improve further and increase the size of his trophy cabinet.

The Nuggets’ 6-foot-11 center is a reigning 2022-23 champ, the MVP in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons and an All-NBA choice five times. Jokić has amassed 20.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game across nine seasons.

When talking about the accolades they have both earned, Jokić very well could match or surpass Durant.

But what makes this conversation interesting is that both of these two stars bring different attributes, are unlike each other in terms of impacting games and they possess contrasting playstyles.

Because of these key factors, it is a tough debate that fans can go back and forth about for years to come.
