The defensive depth continues to dwindle to a paper-thin level for the Arizona Coyotes as Travis Dermott (lower body) will not play tonight vs. the Carolina Hurricanes.

There were rumblings this morning that Dermott would miss the tilt, but it is now confirmed with him not partaking in pregame warmups or being named in Arizona’s lineup.

Dermott already suffered an upper-body injury earlier this season, missing 14 games.

Adding Dermott to list of Coyotes defenseman currently out, Matt Dumba (upper body), Troy Stecher (lower body) and Vladislav Kolyachonok (lower body) all don’t have a set date of when they’ll return.

In his first season as a Coyote, he has a goal, two assists, 42 blocks and 27 hits in 32 games.

Replacing Dermott tonight, Victor Söderström will make his 2023-24 season debut in the NHL.

Söderström has been with the Coyotes since he was recalled from the Tucson Roadrunners (AHL) on Jan. 23 before the news of both Dumba and Stecher’s injury statuses were made available.

He was a first-round (11th overall) pick in the 2019 NHL Draft by Arizona. Before the promotion, Söderström had eight goals and 21 points in 38 AHL games in Tucson.

Divided up in three seasons, the 22-year-old Swede has played 50 NHL games, registering a goal and 10 assists.

Puck-drop between the ‘Yotes and ‘Canes commences at 5 p.m. MST in PNC Arena.
