The Arizona Cardinals Draft Pick Scenarios

The (3-12) Arizona Cardinals are on the road against the (11-4) Philadelphia Eagles. These teams are in very different positions.

The Philadelphia Eagles are fighting for the first seed in the NFC while the Cardinals may fall in position to get the first overall pick.

The Current Draft Order

  1. Chicago Bears (own the Carolina Panthers’ first round pick) – 2-13
  2. Arizona Cardinals – 3-12
  3. Washington Commanders – 4-11
  4. New England Patriots – 4-11
  5. New York Giants – 5-10

The tie breaker is strength of schedule. The Commanders have a strength of schedule of .493 and the Patriots have a strength of schedule of .524, so the weaker schedule gets the higher pick.

The Cardinals have a strength of schedule of .551 and the Carolina Panthers strength of schedule is .520. So, if they end up with the same record, the Bears would get the first overall pick.

For the Cardinals to get the first pick, they need to lose the last two games to the Eagles and Seattle Seahawks. While the Panthers win their last two games over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That is the best case scenario. The worst case scenario draft wise would be if the Cardinals won their last two games along with the Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, and Tennessee Titans losing their last two games. Those three teams all have a record of 5-10 right now.

Arizona has a higher strength of schedule than all three of those teams. If they end up with the same record, the Cardinals would end up with the last pick of those teams.

The last two weeks of the season could see the Cardinals get the first overall pick or go as low as the seventh pick.
