While the Diamondbacks are certainly not favored to win their division in 2024, especially after the Dodgers signed Shohei Ohtani, there are undeniably elevated expectations for Arizona going forward.

Coming off a remarkable Cinderella postseason run that started in the Wild Card round and ended in the World Series, the Diamondbacks have all of a sudden emerged as a “threat” in the MLB.

Torey Lovullo acknowledged what this will mean for the team going forward by stating during the Winter Meetings, “I’ve already been talking about it, to embrace it. So we have to learn to embrace that, accept what we are and that we deserve it. If we can come to grips with that, I think we’re going to get back to focusing on what we do every single day.”

Lovullo also mentioned that “there’s now an ‘X’ on our back.”

Currently, the Diamondbacks are 2nd in most sportsbooks to win the NL West, which is quite the jump compared to where they were entering last season, as it was expected that they would finish 4th.

Now it is only a matter of whether the Diamondbacks can live up to the high expectations and make runs in October an annual occrurance.
