The Arizona Diamondbacks made their first big splash of the offseason by trading for Eugenio Suárez, a veteran third baseman who had spent the past two seasons with the Mariners.

During the Mariners 2022 playoff run, which consisted of a Wild Card series win over the Blue Jays, before they were knocked out by the Houston Astros in the ALDS, Suarez proved why he is one of the more feared power hitters in the MLB.

Suarez started this postseason run 6-13 at the plate, including a home run in Game 1 of the NLDS.

Over the past five years, as surprising as it sounds, Suarez has hit the sixth most home runs. He stands behind some of the biggest sluggers, including Aaron Judge, Pete Alonso, Matt Olson, Kyle Schwarber, and Shohei Ohtani.

Last season, the Diamondbacks were 22nd in the league with just 166 home runs. So, obviously, a home run hitter is a hole that they need to fill.

Some reactions from D-backs fans after hearing the news:

Paul Sewald was, of course, happy, as he will now reconnect with his former Mariners’ teammate.
