We know about Durant’s relationship with his mom and how she’s “the real MVP,” but she had another favorite player when he was growing up.

“My mom had a crush on Olajuwon when I was a kid,” Durant said. “So, that’s all I used to hear when I was in the house … (He’s) somebody she told me to study since I was a kid. So really l admire his game and his journey as a man and as a basketball player. It’s always amazing to be amongst the greats.”

Durant now has his sights set on cracking the top-10 all-time scoring list, as he needs less than 500 points to get there. He has 26,949 points right now and would have to past Elvin Hayes (27,313) and Moses Malone (27,409) to reach this milestone. Durant is also the only player in the top-15 to have played less than 1,000 games (988).

The Suns next play in their home opener, tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against the Utah Jazz. Can Durant have another remarkable 39-point performance?
