Phoenix Suns Preseason Grade: Josh Okogie

The Phoenix Suns ended their preseason with a record of 4-1. Ultimately the wins and losses mean absolutely nothing but how did they play? What players stood out? Detroit Pistons

In the Suns first preseason game they were on the road against the Detroit Pistons. The Suns won the game 130-126 in overtime. Detroit made a comeback in the fourth quarter of that game to make it close. The first three quarters were dominated by the Suns.

Josh Okogie only played 12 minutes in this game. He finished with four points, two assists, and a steal.

Denver Nuggets

Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal did not play against the Denver Nuggets. Okogie stepped up in a major way in their absence.

He was good on both ends. Okogie played 24 minutes and took full advantage of that time. He finished the game with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. This was a great all-around performance that showed Okogie’s range on both ends of the floor.

Trailblazers in Phoenix

Josh Okogie did not play in the first game against the Portland Trailblazers. He came off of the bench in the second match-up. He got another chance to show how he can play along side other players not named Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker.

Okogie finished the game with eight points, five rebounds, and two assists. He shot 4/8 from the floor and had a plus/minus of +20 in 21 minutes.

Los Angeles Lakers

Okogie started in this match-up along side Durant, Eric Gordon, Grayson Allen, and Jusuf Nurkic. He played 23 minutes in this game and finished with six points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

This was another good all-around performance from Okogie.

Josh Okogie’s Preseason Grade

Okogie came into the preseason with the perceived lead in the battle for the fifth starter spot. In the preseason he showed that he is the best fit along side Durant, Booker, Beal, and Nurkic.

The all-around play with and without the other starters showed that Okogie came into this preseason with confidence in all aspects of his game. Okogie earned a “B+” as a preseason grade and may have also earned a starting spot.
