The Diamondbacks acquired Moreno in a trade in December 2022, a move that has paid significant dividends.
During the regular season, Moreno posted a.284 batting average, but, more importantly, he was one of the best defensive catchers in the MLB.
Moreno’s Defensive Wins Above Replacement (DWAR) of 3.1 set him far ahead of the competition. In 104 games, he committed just three errors and allowed only one passed ball.
Notably, Moreno held the highest Caught Stealing percentage (CS%) among catchers who played in over 100 games at .386, demonstrating his effectiveness at deterring base stealers, even with the challenges posed by larger bases and evolving pickoff rules.
Other Diamondbacks that were named Gold Glove finalists include 1B Christian Walker, and Alek Thomas.
