Before they begin their regular season against the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 13, the Arizona Coyotes announced their opening night roster for the 2023-24 season yesterday.

With 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders, 22 players have made the roster after others have been released, waived or sent down to the Tucson Roadrunners, the AHL minor league affiliate of the Coyotes.

After being placed on waivers on Oct. 8, the other 31 NHL teams didn’t claim Arizona center Travis Boyd, so he will remain on the Coyotes roster to start the season.

As expected, newcomers Sean Durzi, Jason Zucker, Matt Dumba and Alex Kerfoot are in the lineup.

Familiar faces to the Coyotes, defenseman Troy Stecher and center Nick Bjugstad, are back in the fold after signing in free agency.

Both players started with Arizona last season, but were dealt at the trade deadline last season, with Bjugstad going to the Edmonton Oilers while Stecher was shipped to the Calgary Flames.

Impressing in the preseason, defenseman Travis Dermott’s name is on the list after signing a one-year, two-way deal with the Coyotes.

Last season, Dermott only played 11 games due to a concussion, so speculation into if he were to make the Arizona roster or being sent down to Tucson was up for consideration.

Coyotes top prospect Logan Cooley is scheduled to make his rookie debut in the NHL this season after scoring four goals and two assists in five preseason games.

Besides those players, the rest of the roster is about the same, headlined by star Clayton Keller.
