On Saturday, September 30th, there was a huge fight in boxing as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez took on Jermell Charlo. The first fight on the main part of the under card was Elijah Garcia vs Jose Resendiz.

He is an exciting young prospect who is on the fast track to a title shot. Resendiz came into this bout with a record of 14-1 with 10 knockouts. He was coming off of a huge victory in his last bout. Resendiz defeated former unified super welterweight champion Jarrett Hurd.
This was a match-up of two fighters who are looking to become champions in the middleweight division, sooner rather than later.
Garcia came out representing for the Phoenix area as he wore green and gold trunks with 602 across the waistband.

What makes Elijah Garcia special?
The Arizona native has a very exciting style. Garcia has a willingness to exchange punches at close range, which will always result in action packed fights.
Garcia is very creative with his punches. He does a great job of mixing up his combinations. The 20-year old is wise beyond his years when it comes to boxing. The ability he has from the southpaw stance to throw power punches with both hands is unique. Most left handed boxers are very dependent on their left hand power. Garcia can knock out his opponents with either hand. He can also go down to the body or up to the head.
This was evident in the eighth round with this combination that led to a knockdown. Then Garcia showed his killer instinct as he did not allow Resendiz to recover and forced the referee to stop the fight.

Elijah Garcia is now 16-0 with 13 wins by knockout. He will be fighting for a world title very soon. He is currently the number two ranked fighter in the WBA middleweight rankings. The current WBA middleweight champion is Erislandy Lara. Lara is expected to defend his belt against Danny Garcia next. The official announcement has not been made yet. Garcia could face the winner of that bout.
There is no limit to what Garcia can accomplish in boxing. He has all the skills to be an all-time great and will get better as he gets more experience. He will go on to represent the 602 area code in a great way.
