Brewers are a much more favorable matchup for the Diamondbacks

While the Diamondbacks have clinched a spot in the postseason, it still remains a mystery who they will play in the first round of the playoffs, even as just one game remains in the regular season.

Currently trailing the Marlins by a mere half-game, Arizona occupies the 6th seed in the National League standings. This position means that, if today’s results were to stand, they would find themselves facing off against the Brewers in the first round of the playoffs.

However, there is still a chance that the Diamondbacks move up to the 5th spot. This hinges on if they beat the Astros today, and the Marlins lose to the Pirates.

In this scenario, the Diamondbacks would square off against the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round – a matchup that many view as less favorable.

This season against the Brewers, Arizona won four of six matchups with a score differential of +11.

In contrast, their record against the Phillies stands at 3-4, and they have endured three consecutive losses in their recent matchups.

Furthermore, the playoff atmosphere in Philadelphia is notorious for being an intense and electrifying experience, which is something the D-backs may not be ready for.

Adding to the complexity of this postseason picture is the Diamondbacks’ relative playoff inexperience, particularly when compared to the Phillies, who recently made a World Series appearance. This discrepancy puts the D-backs at a significant disadvantage from the outset.

Today, the Diamondbacks will take the field against the Astros, maybe a bit hungover after last night’s celebration. The game is set for a 12:10 PM start, with Kyle Nelson slated to take the mound.
