The fight between Bam Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards took place at Diamond Desert Arena in Glendale, Arizona. This is a big time fight to have in Glendale. Normally these type of fights are held in Las Vegas, Nevada, Los Angeles, California or somewhere in New York, if the fight is in the United States at all. This was big for the Phoenix boxing scene.

This was a very interesting fight as these two fighters are polar opposites in their styles. Rodriguez is a come forward fighter who uses his footwork as a way to create offense. Once he has the angle, he unleashes a flurry of punches.

Sunny Edwards is a slick fighter who also has good footwork. He uses his footwork to get away from his opponent and counters his opponent with quick punches as they come in.

This was truly a clash of styles that played out differently than some expected. Edwards had moments of success but Rodriguez dominated with his jab and straight left hand.

The punishment accumulated as the fight went along and led to this knockdown.

Rodriguez did a great job of jabbing the body of Edwards throughout the fight which set up this knockdown shot. Bam went downstairs with the jab and then came back up with the straight left. Edwards’ corner stopped the fight when the round ended after the knockdown.

What’s Next For Bam?

Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez stated that this was his last fight at 112 pounds. The next weight class up in 115 pounds. The top guy at that weight class is (43-3-3) Juan Francisco Estrada. This would be another big time fight that would move Bam up the boxing pound for pound ladder.
