Phoenix Rising: A look ahead

The Phoenix Rising are on a three game win streak and are tightly holding the fifth spot in USL’s Group West. With only seven games left in the regular-season, the Rising are playing some of the best soccer they have been all year in the last five games.

The top 16 teams in each division, nine in the west and nine in the east, make the playoffs and the Rising are sitting in a comfortable spot at fifth. The Rising are six points ahead of the No. 8 spot and 10 points behind the No. 1 Sacramento Republic FC.

The Rising have encountered the top-ranked Republic team twice since the end of July, both winning one game a piece. On Aug. 30, the Rising handed Sacramento a 2-1 loss at Phoenix Rising Stadium led by Danny Trejo and Manuel Arteaga. Trejo and Arteaga have been the most consistent players for the Rising, both battling for the Golden Boot.

In their remaining seven games, the Rising only face one top five team in both groups combined and five top eight teams who are also in the hunt for a playoff spot.

After a busy three game week, the Rising have some well deserved time off until Sept. 9 when they face FC Tulsa on the road.
