Despite the Diamondbacks being a top five team in the rankings earlier this year, the Diamondbacks are at #18 for the second week in a row.

The first rankings in the month of July featured the Diamondbacks being considered one of the best teams in the MLB. At that time, considered a top 10 team in the MLB for seven consecutive weeks in the rankings. First in the division at 50-35 and looking like serious contenders.

Arizona spent the first 90 or so games of the season regularly being first place in the division.

Since that time the Diamondbacks have gone 12-25 and have dropped 13 spots in the rankings and are now fighting for a wildcard spot. Arizona has even fallen below .500 for a brief stint and seemed to be out of playoff contention.

The Diamondbacks, now sitting at 62-60, are just one game out of the wildcard. There are currently three teams that are fighting for that third wildcard spot.

Arizona does have a shot at two of those teams before the seasons end, though. The Cincinatti Reds, Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs are all tied for that third wildcard spot. The Diamondbacks face off twice with the Cubs in the month of September and once with the Reds this month.

The Diamondbacks still have time to get hot and find themselves in the playoffs. Shakey bullpen play has been one of the main reasons for the Dbacks down fall.

Recently, though the squad has brought up two notable young arms. Former first round pick Bryce Jarvis made his debut recently and looked promising. Along with his Reno Aces teammate Justin Martinez who recorded his first career save last night in San Diego.

If the Diamondbacks can find a way to get hot, with around 25 games left in the season, they might just find themselves playing October baseball.
