The 6-foot-2, 215-pound junior was third on the team with 194 special teams snaps last year after recording 91 in 2021. McCullough’s biggest moment in a Sun Devil jersey was his redshirt freshman year in  2020 when he played in the last two games and recorded his lone collegiate interception and a tackle against Arizona.

In terms of a bigger role this year, McCullough said: “I think it’s time. This about about to be my fourth year. I’m getting older, so I feel like it’s time for me to take on that role. I’ve been ready for it.”

The Oxnard, California native knows that this year’s team is a lot different with a whole new coaching staff and over 50 newcomers.

“It changes a lot,” McCullough said, “because a lot of the times when teams watch film they’ll probably go watch your last year’s team, and with us when (teams) watch film, they won’t know what to get because we got so many new guys they won’t know what to expect. I think it’d be a good thing for us.”

The camaraderie of this team is something that McCullough thinks will make them difficult to face on Saturdays.

“There’s no egos, usually when you’re a good team coming off a winning season, you got guys I think they’re better,” he said. “I feel like with this team it’s a bunch of guys that know they got to put in the work and know they gotta do things on the field. So their egos are out the window, which will make us a better football team.”
