In a game that was a perfect illustration of how the Diamondbacks season has gone, the D-backs completed their first sweep of the season on a walkoff base hit after trailing for 8.2 innings in their afternoon matchup against the Rockies.

Zach Davies got the start for the D-backs; he threw 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

But, it was the offense that would simply not give up that gave the Diamondbacks their fifth straight victory and a sweep over the Colorado Rockies.

Each time the Rockies scored, the D-backs had an answer. This began in the sixth inning, when Arizona’s storming offense responded to a two-run top of the inning by the Rockies with two runs of their own.

While the D-backs did have multiple chances to take the lead, as they left a handful of runners in scoring position in innings 5-8, it was a pair of hits in the bottom of the ninth that ultimately finished the job.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two outs and a runner on first, Ketel Marte battled back from a 1-2 count to slash a double into the right field gap.

Then, rookie Corbin Carroll delivered with a walkoff single, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-4 win. It was the first walkoff of his young career.

This walkoff base hit secured the Diamondbacks 17th comeback win on the season. They have now won 14 of their last 19 games, are officially tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the NL West, and are also tied for the best record in the National League.

Now, the Atlanta Braves will come to town for a three-game series starting on Friday. Merrill Kelly will take the mound for the D-backs as they seek to extend their winning streak to six games and stand alone at the top of the NL West.
