Williams has been head coach of the Suns over the past 4 seasons guiding them to an NBA championship in the 2020-21 season and winning NBA Coach of the Year in the 2021-22 season.

Williams is highly talked about around the NBA as one of the best coaches in the league. However, after back-to-back blowout elimination losses in the second round of the playoffs, new Suns owner Mat Ishbia decided to look in a new direction with the organization.

On the Pistons’ pursuit of Monty Williams, there has been a lot to unravel. There have been reports dating back a few weeks ago that Monty Williams was looking to take the year off and spend time with family.

Williams is still owed $21 million annually over the next three seasons by the Suns. Pistons owner Tom Gores and others in Detroit’s organization have continued to pursue Williams and are willing to make him the second-highest-paid coach in the NBA offering him $10 million dollars a year.

Williams is widely known for his ability to change a culture and his leadership qualities which would make Detroit a perfect spot for him. With a rising star in Cade Cunningham and a top 5 pick, the Pistons can take the next step in getting back to prominence in the NBA.
